Diane’s Inspiration – Owner and passionate lover of baked goods…
the way they were meant to be.
I am so excited to share with you our expanded line of authentic favorite international cookies and pastries – Sweet Treats Around the World!
I was motivated to launch Heirzoom Bakery to offer consumers authentic ethnic baked goods the way they were meant to be. I chose the name Heirzoom Bakery to represent the memorable experiences and exceptional quality of treasured “heirloom” recipes, with “zoom” suggesting the convenience of grab and go.
A few years ago, I became so frustrated when I would go into local bakeries brimming with cookies, cakes, and pastries galore looking absolutely delicious, but upon taking a bite, time after time I would be so disappointed. What happened to the butter in the buttercream? The real raspberries in the puff pastry twists? The pound cakes were filled with high fructose corn syrup and preservatives instead of real cane sugar and chemical preservative free. As these changes evolved, they were no longer the recipes that we remember loving.
The story behind this business idea began when I was a child. Growing up in a family of bakers, I was familiar with authentic ethnic baked goods. Every holiday or special occasion I would help my Mom and Nana bake dozens and dozens of a wide variety of cookies and pastries, from Swedish Heirlooms, to Italian Biscotti, and my Nana’s Little Egg Cookies scented with anise and lemon, as well as tried and true American favorites like Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter, plus so, so many more! Only a few years ago I asked my dear Aunt Betty if she would teach me how to make her highly sought after fennome Hungarian pastries – bursting with apricot and prune jams, as well as her homemade delectable walnut filling. Aunt Betty would mix, roll, fill, and bake dozens and dozens of these delectable swirls of filled buttery pastries. They were so special and always the treat that resulted in an empty plate.
Fennome Hungarian pastry became the first line of products I was proud to offer. These delectable pastries pay homage to the rich culinary traditions of home baking. But as time passed on, my customers began to ask for additional delectable treats that brought back memories of the tastes and aromas of baked goods that wafted through their own Mother’s and Grandmother’s kitchens. This birthed the idea of Sweet Treats Around the World!
What makes this company so special is that we are not just a manufacturer of premium specialty baked goods. We are so much more than that! To the generation who remembers, we take you back to a place almost forgotten. After taking a bite our customers often say something like “Wow, I remember my grandma made something like this but haven’t had it in years!” Customers have actually gotten tears in their eyes upon tasting our pastries. I recall one customer sharing that the experience brought her right back to her Grandmother’s Holiday table. Tucked inside our packages are wonderful pastries, yes, but also emotional memories of endearing family members, treasured good times, and love.
What gets me up and keeps me going in this business is the satisfaction I receive from my customers. The genuine appreciation, the smiles, and the stories I get to hear, each and every day about how they remember this type of baking that is nearly impossible to find anymore, those that keep our traditions alive.
I thank you all for your support and appreciation of my culinary passion. I am delighted to share my Sweet Treats Around the World with you!
Savor the Memory,
Diane
